From Vision to Action: The Placemaking Move Game Guide
In our previous post, we explored how the Move Game transforms ordinary public spaces into playful, movement-friendly environments.
Now, we’re taking this idea a step further — from concept to implementation — with the release of the Placemaking Move Game Guide, a practical resource designed to help cities, schools, and organisations create their own active, inclusive spaces.
Why Placemaking Matters
Placemaking is about more than just improving public areas — it’s about reimagining them with the people who use them.
Through co-design workshops and local participation, communities can help shape spaces that reflect their needs, creativity, and identity. When people feel part of the process, they’re more likely to keep using and caring for these spaces in the long term.

The Move Game builds on this philosophy by combining urban creativity, community engagement, and health promotion.
Each installation becomes a space where people move, play, and connect — reinforcing both physical and social well-being.
Creating Active, Inclusive, and Sustainable Spaces
The Placemaking Move Game Guide brings together lessons from field experience and partner expertise across Europe.
It highlights how active design and co-creation can contribute to healthier, more liveable cities, while offering step-by-step guidance to make it happen.
Some of the key takeaways include:
🌍 Community engagement: How to involve residents, schools, and local associations from the very beginning.
🎨 Design principles: How to adapt the Move Game to different settings — from a park 🌳 to a schoolyard 🏫.
🌱 Sustainability focus: Choosing eco-friendly materials and ensuring long-term usability.
📊 Impact measurement: Evaluating participation and the benefits of active public spaces 🏃♀️🏃♂️.
From Local Action to European Movement
Across Europe, partners in France, Greece, Malta, Bulgaria, and Serbia are already using the guide to turn their ideas into action.
Their experiences show that creating spaces for physical activity isn’t just about infrastructure — it’s about empowerment, creativity, and shared ownership.

The Placemaking Move Game Guide offers a tested framework and practical templates to help others do the same, making active design accessible to anyone ready to transform their community.
